Nightingale Theatre

Julius Caesar

Sound design and arrangements for Shakespeare's Julius Caesar at the Nightingale Theatre.

  • Sound Designer
  • Arranger

Julius Caesar hands a sound designer a list: a crowd in the forum that has to sound like more people than the building holds, a night of portents before the Ides, and a civil war fought almost entirely offstage. All three are the same problem — persuading a room of an audience that it is in a much larger space than it is.

The arranging credit sits alongside that. The marches and calls a play this public keeps asking for belong to the world onstage rather than to the design around it, and here both came from the same hand.
